I just formatted the hard drive in a Dell Dimension 4600 and did a clean install of Win XP Home Edition. I connected at CAT5 cable to it, coming from my router, to which two other computers are connected and getting Internet access. Yet, I can't get online with the Dell.

If I open Internet Explorer, I just get "The page cannot be displayed" messages. If I go to Tools, Internet Options, Connections, and click on Setup to open the New Connection Wizard, and do the following:

Select "Connect to the Internet", on the screen for Network Connection Type
On the next screen (Getting Ready): select "Set up my account manually"
On the next screen (Internet Connection): select "Connect using a broadband connection that is always on"
Click on Finish.

It does not work. What do I need to do?

Well, I just discovered what is surely causing a problem. I looked in Device Manager and saw that it indicates the network adapter is not working properly. I probably just need to install drivers from one of the CD's that came with the computer. Will try that and let you know how it turns out.

Edit: Yep, that was it. I installed the drivers and now have Internet accesss.
