Dear all. I am having a problem with my Windows XP Pro. The system itself is a server and has different gateway, DHCP, DNS, WINS servers. It is a public computer and I was not sure how was the pervious users modified the system.

Whenever I open Windows Explorer and attempt to explore a folder containing lots of files. It takes about 2-3 minutes to display it. What I found out is, the LAN terminals icon as shown on the taskbar keep sending and receiving signals before the files are listed. I was not sure to where the signal is sent.

So I disable the LAN connection and try to explore the same folder again. Everything gets back to normal (that is, listing files without delay).

This is only one of the example I am having. The same problem occurs when I:

1. Double click on an object.
2. Right click on a file.
3. Choosing functions from menu of certain programs (e.g. MS Word)

Any idea on how to solve this problem (surely I can't simply disable LAN)? Thanks and hope to hear from you ASAP.
