After Apple's 30" LCD price slash, Dell follows with their own slashing.

I was pretty excited about Apple's price slash, but Dell followed with their own. This is a GREAT price for this monitor and what is even better is, when Dell puts out their next round of coupons, it should bring it down ever further. I'd like to get it for $1500. I'm not building my new machine until the first of next year, but if a "Hot Deal" comes out before then, I may just jump on it. :)

... Wasn't it originally available for $1499 just after release, but in Canada only? :D

Considering Apple had their 30" CD years before Dell came out with theirs, and they were selling it for $3999, I'd say $1899 is a pretty good deal for the TOP of the line LCD. You just don't get any better than a Dell/Apple 30". Awesomeness!

Yeah M4H, they had a great deal in Cananda, unfortunately the people in the US got the shaft with a retail price of $2200. :( Fortunately though, they had some pretty good deals that brought it down to around ~$1550, and that was when the monitor was priced at $2200. I'd like to see what "Hot Deals" come around with its current MSRP. :)

Um, maybe you didn't see that it had a whole 256MB worth of memory on that guy. I bet you think it's worth it now, don't you?

Yes you do, you go out and get a Westinghouse 37" 1080p set for $1500. ;)

"Low res" HD sets don't count as better. ;)

Or you can weld a bunch of 15" LCDs together. But for some reason, I just don't like big black bars in the middle of my games. ;)

Well for those of us that want a big display with a resolution at 1920x1080 the westinghouse is perfect. I don't see the appeal in an ultra high res. 30" Dell display that requires quad SLI just to get decent framerates.

Heh i will someday get a 2560x1600 30" simply for that stupendous resolution :D
Just think how well teh AT forum will fit in that!

But yeah, the amount of GPU power required for playing modern games at that resolution is horrifying, & i despise running anything at non-native resolutions, so yeah...that might be a while :p

You gotta pay to play, and a X1950CF set up will do nicely on a 30" Dell. :) And who needs AA when you have a res of 2560x1600. If anything 2x AA will be just fine.

You need a dual-link card to power that thing, would an SLI setup even work?

Gaming at that res is just nuts. A 7900GTX SLI setup would have a hard time getting most modern games to medium detail.

Yep. But also understand, when you see all these high res benchmarks (1920x1200), they usually have AA turned on to at least 4x. With a 2560x1600 resolution, I plan to use VERY little AA (like in 2x at most) as you'll need AA less at higher resolutions. Most people report that 2x AA is just fine, but I really think I'll be fine without any AA. Anyway, I planning on an X1950CF setup at least.

Without AA I guarantee you will see shimmering even at that resolution. AA is required for most modern games these days. The only games you might be able to avoid AA with are the D3 engine ones. I think 1920x1080 is the perfect resolution for games on a large screen display, it's high enough to be "high res" and you can get away with using a single card and some AA.

2x AA should take care of any shimmering, and should cause minimum performance loss. The only reason you say 1920x1080 is the perfect res for games is because that is enough for you. I say 2560x1600 is the perfect res, but I prefer quality over quantity (30" vs 37").

You can scale back to 1280x800 (still good enough for 720p content) without having to worry about interpolation...the monitor/resolution is large enough that scaling back to 1/4 the pixels actually isn't bad idea (whereas 800x600 on a 1600x1200 monitor isn't really acceptable these days)

Dell 3007FPW is much better than Apple's 30inc Cin LCD. I have used them both at work and i am talking from using experience. If it only were cheap then i do buy Dell 3007FPW , till then its me and my 24" dell ;(
