After a month, my new system is now complete! *sigh*

Over a month ago the upgrade bug hit me pretty bad. I went from upgrading my Voodoo 3 3000, to upgrading the whole system. I can blame this forum for this, but it's all good 😀 So instead of just buying a new video card, I bought the Lian Li PC60, Athlon 1.333, Geforce 3...etc. This was all completed in about a week after I received all the parts. Everything was looking up from here, until I realized my new monitor was f*cking up like my old one. I finally realized that the power lines outside my window were affecting them. I was seriously pissed because the company I ordered the monitor from did not do cash back. So I had two 21" monitors filling up my room, and to top it off my TV. I thought it over, and I decided to purchase an LCD Monitor, even though I'm a gamer. I decided on the Sony SDM-M81 18", but of course every online $ B&M place were out of stock. Luckily I checked Egay and lo and behold, 8 minutes left on the Sony LCD I wanted, being sold by a person 40 miles away from me, and selling it $100 CHEAPER than online and NO TAX!

Well that's the sum of it. In total, and I hate to look at this, I spent $1350 on the computer, $450 on the 22" CRT, and $1125 on the Sony LCD, making the total $2925!!! SH*T!!! Oh well, no upgrading for a long long time, and it so happens my upgrade bug is cured (for the moment.)

What's good is my mom will buy my old computer and monitor for $400. As for the extra monitor I bought, I can either return it to AMEX for their limit of $300, or I can sell it to someone.

As for gaming, the Sony LCD works great with Tribes 2 and suprisingly Quake III. UT is not so good. But on the bright side my TV doubles as a computer monitor, so for any hardcore FPS gaming, I can move to that for 800x600 gaming.

Oh well, let me get out of here and get back to work.🙂

I too, started out with a minor upgrade (geforce2 GTS) which snowballed into an entirly different system (check my sig link) then what I had before. I crunched the numbers, and the damage to my wallet was about $650. I just sold some stuff, and with my visor rebate, all but about $100 of it is covered. Good thing I'm working a good job for the summer 😀

I bought everything but the case and the DVD drive here on Anandtech 😀

Let me get this straight... You blew three grand because of monitor problems caused by powerlines outside your window, at your mothers house??? I think I would have just changed rooms, or at least paid to have the lines moved elsewhere. I think the money would have been better spent on a security deposit and a few months rent, elsewhere!!! LOL!!! But Wait, wait, it gets better... and now you're going to charge YOUR OWN MOTHER for your crappy old computer, that still has monitor problems?!?!? You don't live in Arkansas, do you?

>> After a month, my new system is now complete!

Aren't you even going to try to keep your machine up-to-date?

Isn't there some new upgrade you just gotta have?

Think, man, think!

No you got it all wrong, I live in an apartment with still 5 months to go in my lease. It's a three bedroom apartment with 2 other roommates. There is no way I can move. My mother lives about 20 minutes from me, and she is getting a great computer in a 650 Athlon, Asus mobo, etc. The monitor works absolutely fine at their house, just not in my apartment, which totally and absolutely sucks, but I can't do anything about it right now.

EDIT: Hey boobers, my old computer doesn't suck.

Old computer specs:

Athlon 650
ASUS K7V
256 PC133
30GB Maxtor 7200RPM
Voodoo 3 3000

Not too bad for an old computer if I must say so.

Wow, see, that's why that last post was a question, because I guess I was confused. I have been drinking for days now...

BTW, your old computer doesn't suck too bad.

hehe, you must be really drunk...🙂 Do you know how much it would cost to have power lines moved? He could probably buy a dozen LCDs instead.

And congrats on the nice system, what's the model of your 22" CRT?

My 22" CRT is the NEC Multisync FP1350. My old monitor is the Viewsonic 21" G810. One thing about this LCD screen though, is that my eyes feel a whole lot better after 3 or 4 hours. I just watched Gladiator on the screen and it is a beauty.
