After a bit of time and effort, I've adopted a dog!

Some of you may have seen the couple of posts I've made here at ATOT about rescuing a boxer. The first two dogs I was interested in needed to be adopted in pairs, and then I ran into problems with a breeder and the people over at boxerworld.com because we didn't agree on some things (and it ended in my being banned from their website).

In any case, after working with the local boxer rescue here in Reston, VA I've finally found her! I wasn't originally looking for a girl boxer, or one so young, but she stole my heart! :)

So without further ado... Introducing Nina!

Thanks for everyone's support and advice in previous threads. I definitely used the advice on what to buy before bringing home a dog. Unfortunately, UPS decided that my package won't arrive until Monday, but oh well! :)

Cool doggie!!! Congrats and best of luck to you both. I hope you bring each other years of happiness.

Doggies are cool.

Man, I can't wait until I can get a dog again. It's been years since our last one. But I've got to wait until I'm finished with school. :(

Great dog, mate.

Haha, Ninja ... thats pretty funny. I've been trying to think of a more "dog-like" name to rename her, but right now while I'm trying to get her trained with everything I figure its easier to go with the name she already knows.

So far she's been pretty good with house training ... only 4 accidents total that I know of :) and she's getting pretty used to the schedule I have her on I think.

I've been so overwhelmed with stuff to buy though ... everytime I go into PetCo or PetSmart I see toys or stuff I'd like to get, but I have to resist or else I'm gonna go broke buying doggy stuff. :)

Nah stick with Nina; that's an adorable name that can only become more endearing as she develops her personality.:)

Beautiful Boxer.

My Boxer is gettin old (almost 8 yrs old), but she is still just as much of a goof as when she was a puppy

I got mine kind of the same way you did. Holly's owners would just tie her up outside and get pissed when she would dig, so they were going to take her to the pound. They asked us if we wanted her and we jumped at the chance. They came over to my house a few months later for my son's birthday, and she growled at them LOL

My Holly

Edit because i caint spell

Good choice with the boxers, we used to have a couple of them. Definitely one of the friendliest big doggies, and excellent around kids. Actually, and decent treated animal should be good around kids, just boxers can put up with more little kid abuse then most little dogs will.

We used to have mini collies too. Man, were those guys ever hyper, kept me on my toes, lol. I'm looking at picking up a small dog now (only have a small apartment, but dogs are okay pending approval).

I was thinking maybe a scottish terrior or some other similar dog, any suggestions?

Gotta LOVE the boxers. We have Danes, bit sweet dogs, but Boxers are near the top of my list of favorites. :)

My friend has a toy box terrier and he's very well behaved. A little bit picky in terms of who he will play with (he isn't good with strangers) ... He also sheds a lot for a short hair dog, and has difficulties being home alone for long periods of time because he's so small ... (he lasts about 5 hours by himself before he goes pee and poop)... He's cute though, and a blast to play with if he likes you (otherwise he just runs away because he's scared of you) :)

I love dogs and I must say that so far my favorite breed is pug. My friends who are like family have a beautiful pug named Perry. This dog is frickin' awesome. Other than pugs I must say that I've found mutts to be the best. Yes, that's right, the ugly ol' thangs that nobody wants I like them most. I had a mutt that was a mix between some kind of terrier and a poodle. Woody was frickin' awesome he'd catch birds out of the air and would RUN damn that dog could run. Anyways, I'ma happy for you!

I swear right about now she's driving me nuts. Twice today ~5 minutes before my scheduled time to take her out (I have her on ~5 hour gaps, she goes out at 7am, 12:30pm, 5:30pm walk, and 10pm) and at ~5:25 and ~9:55 she decided to use the house as her personal bathroom. Tonight at ~9:55 I was getting up to get dressed to take her out (want to put on long pants to help keep away the mosquitos), and as I'm standing there she got in the position ... and when I told her NO, she ran away and did it on the 2nd floor! Grr. She sure is lucky that she's cute ... Hope she gets it in her head quick that the schedule includes going outdoors and not indoors because buying resolve carpet cleaner every other day is becoming expensive! :)

Great looking dog! I am glad you decided for a rescue instead of buying one -- too many wonderful dogs out there that need homes for people to go out and spend money on a breeder. We rescued our Rhodesian Ridgeback from a local pound in Texas and couldn't be happier.

I have plenty of pictures but nowhere to host. :)
