... I have finally watched all episodes of Cheers in consecutive order.

Man, what a great show.

Off to the Bull N' Finch / Cheers bar this weekend to celebrate.

Anyone else seen all of them? Anyone see the final episode live back in '93? What was it like?

It really was an awesome show. It was semi-emotional to watch it end, though with a comedy like that you often don't get as involved as with a drama.

Will someone please explain to me why Cheers is considered to be so good?

While I've never tried to watch them in order I'm pretty sure that I've seen them all. I did see the finale when it first aired and was really impressed by them going out in such a classy and understated way. Unlike the ridiculous ends to shows like M*A*S*H, Seinfeld, Newhart etc Cheers got it just right.

I own them all on DVD. Saw the final episode live in '93, but I hadn't watched during the Shelley Long years so the whole plot was less meaningful to me. I remember it being a pretty big deal at the time, kind of like when Seinfeld ended.

Cheers was a great show, and I still enjoy watching it, but when people complain that TV today isn't as good as it used to I wonder if they really remember what sitcoms used to be - awkward setups for obvious jokes, absurd situations and ridiculous overuse of dramatic irony.

Stellar ensemble cast. Cliff, Coach, Woody, Norm, just to name a few.

And Dr. Lilith Crane could have sternly corrected me in private any time she wished, for I have no doubt disappointed her! :p

It never tried too hard or reached too far for its laughs. They came naturally out from the expertly drawn characters that you actually grew to care about.

It had real heart without ever becoming too preachy or didactic or mawkish.

Cheers truly earned that cliche sobriquet "beloved." It was beloved by many, and with good reason.

Not to mention probably the best theme song in television history!

Opposite of how it started - Sam straightened a picture and walked out the back of the bar (to where? there's no door back there).

Kind of like Seinfeld ending with a conversation about George's button.

You see, a parody is when...

Oh, please! How can you be so blind? All of our seemingly serious and on-topic answers were obviously parodies of the serious and on-topic answers in The Godfather thread! ():)
