its probly an infection of some kind. (most important clue is the high fevers) The blood test should give you high white blood cell count. if the culture test doesnt come back with anything positive it would be a viral infection, because its a bit harder to culture viruses. (have to use a living culture which is a pain the butt)
now...that doesnt help you at all, because it could be anything that gives you an immune response.
being diabetic has nothing to do with the fever though. the doc will have to confirm if you were diabetic after the illness is over.
3 weeks is a long time. if the test results come back with nothing concrete, i suggest you get a copy of those results and find another doctor that specializes in infectious diseases.
