#1: the importance of a personal shower.
#2: the importance of soundproof walls.

it's loud, it's crowded, but it's kinda fun. :)

how long did it take you to get used to college?

Never quite got used to girls knocking on my door at like 3 in the morning asking for a ride to the local fast food joint.

I had my own room, so it wasn't so bad for me. :)

EDIT: We had shower stalls, so I guess that was kinda private. There was this one guy that I swore used like a third of the paper towel roll every time he was in there. How many paper towels can you use, man?!?!

I had communal showers that weren't too bad.

I'm still not used to college. I need to go back for four more years to figure it all out. Damn you, life-outside-school!

How are you taking to the group showers? I don't think it'll really bug me... I don't really mind not having any privacy. It's not like I'm green and have tentacles.

Still, tell me about it...

Man I love college- can't wait to get back this Thursday to the dorms. I've got a really nice modular dorm (re: size of your average Hampton Inn room) with a full private bath. You'd probably hate me even more if I told you this was a co-ed dorm as well, and there's only sophomores and older living in it. :D

I got lucky. My first year (last year), there was a huge freshman class at my University and so they had to stick some freshman in the upper class dorms. I was one of them.

Had one roomate.

The room was bigger than my room back at home.

Plus it had a closet that you could stick a whole other bed in.

Plus own personal bathroom with shower :D.

Oh, and maid service :D:D.

So I really didn't have many of the problems that most people had.

I won't be having these problems since I'm staying at home :)

still, I'll use my friends' dorm rooms for drinking between classes

Reminds me of the time when the hall maid came by and we had our door open, she took one look inside and exclaimed, DIRTY!! and proceeded to sweep up inside of our room.

in between classes? WTF!! how often does this happen? :Q:D last year, we had this really strange teacher and me and 3 other guys made a pact that we would come to this class piss drunk before the year was over....we did on the second last class (at 10am), quite the experience :D

I was in the dorms for only one year, but I got pretty lucky I guess...ended up getting a single in a quiet, small hallway. Small as hell, but it was nice......I could go party wherever, but I could have peace and quiet when I needed it. The whole hall ate dinner together most days, or as many as possible, it was nice.

I'm going for my freshman year in 3 days. I dunno whether I got lucky or unlucky in my dorm assignment.. I'm living in an old frat house that was converted to be used as dorms. It houses 25 people on 3 floors, each with a community bathroom (dunno if that means community showers too, which I dislike from my stay at another college last summer), and we're in the middle of all of the frat/sorority houses on campus, with no other dorms within a half mile.

True story - My freshman year we came back from Christmas break and had a hall meeting. The head dorm RA's speech consisted of "Don't piss in the shower, don't screw in the shower, and if you are going to bring in alcohol, bring it in in a bag so it doesn't look like you are bringing in alcohol."

how long did it take you to get used to college?

Roughly 2 weeks to settle in, and a month to feel completely at home. That was 3 years ago.

For a second I thought you were talking about sex in your personal shower with soundproof walls.... :p

College is fun. I'm entering my junior year.
Took me a few weeks to get used to living by myself, I think.

There is like one big shower with little cubicals w/ curtains in our dorm. It is decently private, but you see the occasional person walking in and out. It isn't like a huge deal man, every guy (hopefully) has genitals, you shouldn't really worry about that aspect. As far as soundproof rooms, how I wish, I cannot stand people listening to that bling bling sh"t at like 2 in the morning. It drowns out my music :p

My buddy in college had a room right next to a couple of gay guys. His desk was right next to their bed and he could here them get...uhhh..."intimate" at times:disgust: . He spent a lot of nights at my apartment across the street (I had a good job in college so I had my own place ;) ). I think those guys got kicked out over other complaints a year later, but DAMMMNNN, that's nasty.
