An African-American millionaire and his Manhattan consultant son were victims of a July 4th hate crime in their hotel room during a Florida vacation.

A racist creep apparently snuck into Frank and Michael Davis’ room at the upscale Art Ovation Hotel in Sarasota and left a 2-by-5 post-it note reading, “You’re a N—-R.”

After returning to their sixth-floor room from breakfast, the Davises found the sickening message placed on a globe-shaped bedside lamp.

“I was stone cold for 30 to 40 seconds when I read the note,” Michael Davis, 27, a consultant for a financial firm, told The Post.

“My first thought was, what did we do to deserve this? We tipped well, we were beyond nice to all the staff.”

Way to go America..

Yeah something doesn’t seem right here. Alternatively though you’d have to be fucking stupid to fake something like this because, well, it seems so fake to begin with.

Likely one of the staff!

Have you never stayed in a hotel and had your loose change stolen from your change tray when you went out? I sure have.

No I haven't. But considering most hotels use electronic key cards, I'd imagine that the staff gets a special key card that tracks who enters and when.

That's speculation on my part though. Anyone in the industry care to chime in?

Do you stay in nothing but Motel 6 or other shit ass hotels? I travel for work and stay in hotels often - Never once have I had this type of incident.... especially for something like mere pocket change.

Someone snuck into his room? This doesn't pass the smell test for me.
It does stink. It had to be the staff, why risk getting canned just to anonymously insult someone? On top of that, it's just plain stupid. I mean really brain dead lameass stupid.
Something is amiss.

But then, racists aren't generally known for being the brightest.

And 'Florida' was mentioned in the OP.

Whole thing seems odd. Any hotel where a wealthy person is staying would have cameras in the hallways. Then there are the electronic locks. It would take a complete fool to think they could get away with this. Or maybe it was done by the occupant. We need more info.

Although the hotel, part of the Marriott chain, refunded the family's Marriott points used on the six-day trip, the Davises claimed that management refused to help them find suitable accommodations, checking into another lodging two hours away.

I don't want to sound racist. But I tend to get suspicious, when I hear they were apparently wanting a full refund and help with a new holiday, at least as regards sorting it out.

Because I have heard stories before, where people put in false claims, so that they can get out of paying for expensive holidays and maybe get alternative holidays paid for by the original hotel as well.

The note looks rather suspicious to me. They wrote "you are", as "YOU'RE".
The type of person who would genuinely create a racist note like that, would (in my opinion), have (made the common mistake of) writing "your", because of my perception of their lack of education.

tl;dr
I also find this story fishy.
But it could be a true/genuine story, I guess we don't know yet.

With the swipe keys I doubt it’s even anonymous
However I am suspicious something sounds weird about the story.

A black person of means would have almost zero motive to fake this. Also look at the handwriting. People with his status usually write better then that.

I believe him until proven otherwise.

Pity this thread is missing a poll. It could have gone something like this...

(1) The story is fake, they made the note themselves

(2) The story is true and the maid did it, in the green room, with the pen which looks like a spanner

(3) Professor Green did it, who sneaked in from the hotel room opposite, with a pen which looks like a hammer

(4) Trump did it, proving he is so very, very smart, because Mr Plumb was ill that day

Could have been a third party too. House keeping often leaves the door open when cleaning. Depending on the layout of the room and where the cleaning staff was at the time, a person from the hallway could have easily slipped in, dropped the note, and walked back out.

I agree. I've often walked past, open rooms, when the room cleaning service lady (or man) is cleaning other peoples rooms. Sometimes the cleaning person walks off to get a pile of towels or something, and leaves the open room unattended for a couple of minutes (in theory, for example).

But my gut feeling is still, that I have this nagging doubt with the story, and still think, there is a at least a small chance the story/incident is fake.

Even if it is true, that the family are rich. My understanding is that even very rich families can be very tight with money, and happy to pull off stunts, to gain an advantage, even if it involves dishonesty.

E.g. Trump is wealthy. Yet I wouldn't put it past him, to accept dishonest payments, in order to change what happens politically.

Example:
There is a story, with proof, I believe. That Trump started up a charity, which was mainly to effectively "steal" money from unsuspecting charity supporters. For Trumps own purposes.

Most I can think is that you put it in a place that is marked for tips - since I have seen that in a number of hotels lately. I dunno, I doubt a maid would steal pocket change of all things. Maybe a smartphone, tablet, or expensive jewelry.. but change?

Also, demanded being refunded 6 days of hotel stay for 1 note being left? Yeah, this now reeks of bullshit on the bullshit-o-meter... Originally I thought they just went about their day - maybe complained and asked them to investigate. But if they wanted and asked for a full refund at an expensive hotel, I already know the motive and who performed it.

I can speculate and think of some motives. This guy and his son are now in the news so that is publicity. It could also be that they have a desire to create change by stoking the fires of outrage. Another is that they could have someone looking into something that involves them, and this will shift focus away.

There are many possibilities, and we have no idea if any of them are true because we have very little information. To say that they would have almost zero motive is wrong as there are possible motives.

Hmm...MAGA racism in Florida, or millionaire prick doesn't wanna pay for his hotel room? I'm thinking the latter seems rather more likely, Occam's Razor and all.

There are honest and dishonest people, of all colors.

E.g. Trump, who is honest (he says), dishonest (others say), White, Orange and maybe other colors.
So like I said, all colors.

Lies!

I had the race card pulled on me when I didn't hire this completely unqualified black girl for my department. I spent weeks battling with HR, trying to prove to them how unracist I was. It didn't matter to them that the girl was overqualified and couldn't answer simple questions about quickbooks. No the only thing that mattered was that the guy I hired was white and they promptly made me fire him, take on the black girl. Who ended up screwing up our books so bad in FY2013 that we narrowly dodged an IRS audit.
