Affordable, Quality, Gamepad

I have been playing quite a few snes roms lately, and I miss the feel of a gamepad. I am looking for an affordable gamepad that has what I need and won't break. I'd like to keep the price under $30 unless that is really too limiting. I don't need too much stuff, just enough to do the job WELL. Does anyone know a link with a comparison? Thanks.

Logitech WingMan Rumblepad, is by far one of the bnest gamepads out there and goes for 20-30 dollars, it'll be your money well spent, no gamepad that i know of is better.

lol i didnt read ur whole post u might not really need that gamepad if ur only using it for SNES games, not sure if they make it any more but the original Gravis Game Pad was identical almost to SNES controllers and can be found for 5 bucks or so if it's still around.

I don't care if it looks anything like an snes controller at all. If it has enough buttons and AT LEAST a directional pad that's fan. More is good. Just so you know, I hate the design of playstation controller, so if you sugges one like it, you will die 🙂

an 8 dollar gravis pad... looks like a ps2 controller minus the joysticks and rumble. works perfectly for snes roms (thats why i bought it) its cheap durable, uses USB and is the perfect size. Got it at the local EB

glitch

EDIT: just noticed taht PS controller post.. well then this one isnt for you but it feels comfortable to me and i am usually playing on the gamecube controller

I have the MS SideWinder gamepad as well... you should be able to find one for quite a bit under $30...

Nice and solid construction, and pretty good feel... no complaints here...

I loved the Gravss Game Pad Pro(the PS2 controller without the analog sticks), but somehow, it stopped working in NBA Live 2003, and ONLY in NBA Live 2003, so I bought the Logitech RumblePad. It's an awesome gamepad.

This pad is awesome...but for your usage, I would go with the Original Sidewinder USB pad. Don't get the Gamepad Pro or whatever they call it (the boomeraing silver thing), its definitly not the most comfortable pad in the world 🙂

The Original sidewinder pad is really hard to beat.

Thustmaster Dual Analog can't be beat. (The Thrustmaster Dual Shock is the same, but adds a touch of vibe-feedback.) And, it's only about $25.

Another vote for the Microsoft Sidewinder gamepad.

I have the original gameport version, which i cannot imagine ever getting rid of, and both of my roommates have USB sidewinders. The USB version is $35 at Best Buy, but it comes with Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, which I think makes it more than worth the money.

Simply put, you can't go wrong with a Sidewinder.

Get a Gravis Gamepad Pro (the black USB one). I don't think it gets much better than this for SNES emulation. The buttons are layed out exactly like a SNES controller, except there are two extra shoulder buttons like a PS2 controller (I use those for Save State / Load State - Very Useful). Feels very comfortable as well. You should be able to get one for $20 easy.

If it is SNES emulation you are doing you want to get something very similar to a SNES controller. I've used this extensively for SNES emulation as well as emulation for other consoles and love it.

Link to the gamepad's official page

I still like the Logitech Rumblepad. Not the best inergonomis but it works very well with virtually all games (including its rumble feature).

I'm pretty sure i'll be getting the Microsoft Sidewinder. I remember now that I used a friends and loved it. Feel free to recommend more, but I'll probably get that one. It's for me for Christmas so I have some time.

Another vote for the Thrustmaster Dual Power. Just get the newest drivers and it will do fine (as in, in XP, I got BSODs...with the 2.4 drivers, it's all been peachy). Best ergonomics EVER. ONly 2 buttons are mushy (the bottom L and R), which makes me happy, as my fav keyboard is the divine Model M. The only thing missing are switches for the buttons, but alas, you have to get a pricey joystick for that usually (My M$ Sidewinder Precision Pro I think does...it feels that way at least, but it has worked so well over the last few years I don't dare open it up to find out 😛).

Woo hoo! And I know there were a few other people here who vouched for 'em as well.

I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking this gamepad rocks, and that people actually know of its sweet glory 😀

if you have an n64, i would suggest using an n64 controller. i'm not sure what it's called anymore, you should be able to search for it and find it easy, but there is thing converter that allows you to use your n64 controller with your computer.

personally i think the n64 controller is the best console controller ever, and it will work great for snes roms and, of course, n64 roms

I bought a playstation 2 controller on ebay then went to level six website and bought an adapter for 10 bux. Total cost 33$ .

I have never looked back.

The PS controller isn't bad, but the buttons are all mushy and the thing is so small. That's why I didn't get one 🙂. I do wish they'd do whatever M$ does to their sticks, though. No Sidewinder joystick since the Precision Pro has had _any_ gitter or _any_ need for calibration. The TM controller auto-calibrates, and does eventually get where it needs to be, but sometimes takes awhile (each time I look in thrustmapper, my right stick centers slightly closer to true center, and my left one has no reached it).

Yup. Nothing like using the power of a 1.53GHz Athlon to play NES, SNES, PS and the few good N64 games, huh?

Pure EVIL!!! The controller got my fingers fatigued quickly, the things were easy to break, and you couldn't use all the controller's buttons at the same time. Even requiring 'creative' mapping of the C-buttons, it's much better w/ my TM Dual Power...I can actually use it for more than 15 minutes at a time.

1.53...i only have 1.2 🙁

And, I agree. the n64 controller wasn't the greatest. Perhaps the worst controller I held for the time. That analog would get a lot of gunk in it for some odd reason. and my hands were clean :Q it was quite alright for playing zelda and mario 64 though...that's about it.
