I'm not sure if this is a joke or what but check this thread out (last post).

The developer of the affinity changer, nick4eva, says "Next and further versions of Affinity Changer will not work for users with team number 198 (Anand Tech). No respect"

:(

I believe that was actually said by Rilian, the hot-head, not the dev. ;)

And I doubt it will happen. Besides, if it does the developer has provided source code so it's sort of a moot point. No worries.

Kind of a long story:) & I don't know all of it but some here had security concerns about the affinity changer and the ukranian Folding site posted a link to the thread here and called TA "security noobs". That led to some exchanges at folding.org, etc.

Others may wish to comment please :)

Yea that's what I was wondering, and wth is the 'no respect' comment about??:frown:
[edit]Just seen other posts, so because of a few dis-agreements he says that to the whole team?

Can someone link me the original thread (I don't want to bring it up here but I am curious).

Jim
nick4eva said it :(,not Rilian.

That post was modified from the original (their board doesn't show this) and at the time it was changed I had an ongoing email convo with nick4eva that was not at all adversarial. I'm 99.8% sure that post wasn't changed by Nicholas.

Just so's ya know. I think there is ONE person that doesn't like "us". Or more specifically, a couple of "us". And I'm guessing that person is a 17 year old that lives in his Aunts basement. ;)

Jim, you know that's not true: I turned 18 a few weeks ago (and my aunt *does* charge me rent.) ;) ;)

Ah ok ,fair enough:thumbsup:
Maybe the nick4eva should at least remove the insult himself from that post?

Without opening up the whole argument again, would I be right in saying that with the source code being available (again?) & the devs site now known that any security concerns have been alleviated?
That being the case it would be nice to remove any concerns that some people may of gained from reading the various related threads & give it the green light here.

A big THANKS to INSIDIOUS for finding this gem!!!!
Here,here :)

I would think the more talking about it we do, the more talking about it we do. Ya know?

It's not possible to change (nor know) what happened in the past. We can only go on current information. If the released source code is the same as the binaries (which I personally don't know) then all is good, right?

None of this is a big deal, unless people want it to be....

I'm with Jim!

Let's just do what we can to make sure we are using something we want to use and then just enjoy the benefit. The rest is.......... history!

(Like George W. ----- we can change it!) <-- sorry, just had to put that in there!

PS: while you are totally welcome for the 'uncovering' of this utility, it was GLeeM that reminded me of it's use... a vague recollection by our fearless leader.... saved the day!

 to the guy that always seems to get the first to post in the stats threads.....

HaHa! I don't even recollect reminding you of it

And two weeks ago I had forgotten to post about qfix, thanks to biodoc for carrying the slack ;)

All those people that used to say "First" to post in a stats thread were really second

My take on all this: I am a country bumpkin and don't know all about security issues and I thank all those here that help to keep me safe with their advice :cookie:
(I am too honest and take others at their word, I could never be the "boss")

I know a little about programming and how powerful malware could be so I would guess that nick4eva also knows this and would be understanding of a cautious person. After all he went to the trouble to code the proggy for his team AND all folders. He is due credit, thanks Nicholas :)

As for his zealous friend, he might not understand about these things and only sees how much good nick4evas program does for F@H science!
It's hard to fault a friend for doing what he thinks is right.

The thing that bothered me was that he thought asking about the program implied "security noob".
Which implied that the noob didn't know how to crack or reverse engineer a program to check for malware and that this practice is easy for the non-noob to do. A lot of people might think that behavior unsavory and thus make them wonder about security issues!
