way to take an american symbol and use it to peddle your religion.

from the article...

She was the idea of Mr. Williams, a very successful pastor whose church, World Overcomers, qualifies as mega: it has a school, a bowling alley, a roller rink, a bookstore and, he said, 12,000 members.

wtfbbq :Q

You do realize this country's founders were Christians, right? I really like the photo displayed in the NY Times.

Educate yourself before you speak

QFT I'm religious, but I'm Hindu. I get put off when a particular tone is taken in talking about Christianity. I think the tone is, you're going to Hell because you don't believe in Christ. Its that indignant self-righteous b.s. that annoys the hell out of me.

It's tacky and an eyesore.

how about when you go to school and discuss philosphy, you can bring up Buddhism and Hinduism all day long...but if you raise your hand and just happen to mention the Judeo-Christian God, you get cut off and told that you can't have religion in class.
Or in the California curriculum, you get to go on a fake Mecca piglrimage, but no mention of Easter, it has to be spring break.
The same Founding Fathers that wrote the Seperation of Church and State, on the very next day, declared it a national day of prayer.

Very contradictive considering the purpose of the original statue. Being a secular thinker, it doesn't bother me if it's on private property.

I liked the variants in Futurama:
