AES recordable DVDs?

I've vaguely heard of these before and they piqued my attention again when helping a customer clear out some old kit they had. Googling the topic hasn't revealed much to me. According to the box they're meant to be encrypted DVDs, but surely one can only do that with software (or some proprietary 'you can only read these discs on a particular drive' weird bit of hardware that would surely still require some kind of passkey to decrypt the contents).

I can upload the pic I took (and I believe I kept) of the DVD box. I just wondered if anyone knows anything more about this than I do.

Are you talking about EncryptDisc? If so, those were the equivalent of buying new, modern flash drives that had "encryption software" bundled. EncryptDiscs shipped with an already-open session on the disc that included their Encryption software that you could run directly off of it.

That was probably it, thanks.
