advise on new motherboard/cpu combo

Guys, I"m in a bit of a dilemma. There are WAY too many mobo's out there with different chipsets that I'm getting very confused. Basically this is what I want

Budget for Processor and motherboard only $350-400USD

First and foremost I want something very stable!

mostly work use, very little gaming and no overclocking.
DDR Preferred
Intel Chipset
Ethernet, USB and firewire built in is a plus
Good hard drive support (raid is cool but not necessary)
I like Asus and ABIT.

It seems the Asus P4C800 and P4G8X would be a good choice but I keep reading about various problems with these boards, I want stability, but dont want some old chipset either.

Also, which P4 chip do you recommend to go with this board? Again under $400 for CPU and Mobo. Thanks much

Abit IC7
Intel P4 478 2.4 GHz 800 FSB
It might be a little more than $400, but you might be able to find it for under $400
