My youngest son is going to be deployed at the end of the year and he has asked me to recommend a laptop that he could take with him overseas. Not being in the "know" as far as whats the latest and greatest I decided to come here and solicit opinions. A couple of years ago I did frequent a site that dealt with laptops and reviews but the website name eludes me now. Anyway, his budget would be around $2000.00 and his request was for to get something "kick ass". He will want to watch movies, game, web browsing and download pictures and movies from his camera. If I recall the following were key players in the laptops...dell, alienware (are they both the same now) and acer. Any other suggestions would definitely be appreciated. I will in the meantime start browsing the web in hopes of finding something that would fit his needs.

Question...he will be in Afghanistan and he wanted to know if he could get a wireless card for the machine. Any advise on that? He will probably take some type of storage device for movies and stuff...not sure what the new technology is on that. Last time I looked into that was 3 years ago and things have changed for the better.

thanks for any and all advise...

All Laptops have WiFi Built in but that won't help him unless there is a access point near by. If he is looking for the ability to have internet access at any given time its not going to happen. I doubt there is an established 3G or equivalent service established there. I'm sure there are some rules and regulations he will need to be aware concerning the use of the internet while he is deployed.

QFT.

I just bought one from NEWEGG.

Best machine I've ever owned.
