advise on best vid card for my cpu

I have a choice between a used GeForce FX 5900 Ultra (256MB) 450 MHz/850 MHz

and a used ATI 128mb which I believe is 360/660

My cpu is an Athlon xp 1.67ghz and I have 1gb of pc2400 ram

My question is, with my slowish cpu and memory, will it be pointless for me to get the faster card, or will I still see an improvement in Doom3 and HL2. Thanks.
 
No matter how CPU bound you are, you will see an improvement by going to the more capable card. The problem is the improvement will be slight at best and simply not worth it. I would suggest not getting anything beyond a 128 MB, 256 bit 9800 Pro for that setup.
