Advise dwell on his move (NYC)

I don't normally solicit for personal advice here but here's the deal. I want to buy a place. Small, 1 bedroom, just me. I rent in Brooklyn now (DUMBO). I have two choices to consider:

1) Brooklyn, Cobble Hill. I have a place all set, brand new, nice. It's in the bag if I want it. Nice town, pretty hip, 30 minutes on the F to work.
2) Manhattan, where, dunno. Looking at a nice place in Chelsea Sunday. A bit more money but it's Manhattan.

Is living in Manhattan so great that it's worth paying more money for (about $40K)? I know in the end the decision is mine, I am just looking for input.

I thought most Brooklynites were moving to Staten Island? Atleast it seems that way...

I don't know much about NYC. Personally, I couldn't stand to live there, too cramped and vertical for me. It's jsut an alien place considering where I'm from.

Good luck, though :)

imo - manhattan is over rated and over priced. i used to live in the lower east side (parents still there), right next to the Williamsburg bridge. it's getting better, many middle/upper middle class are coming in, where this nieghborhood used to be ghetto.

i've moved to forest hills, and it's much less hectic and i usually drive out to LI in the weekends or out of nyc all together.

If I had to choose another bourough over Manhattan (where I am now) I would pick Queens. Food for thought.

I love Manhattan but it is very expensive. Depends on your budget and what kind of location you are in. Not all of Manhattan is where you want to live, and same with other bouroughs.

Brooklyn is cool, but if you don't work down in the Financial district, the commute kind of sucks, IMHO.
