Hello

I would like to know your opinion on the subject

I have a new 4K TV which i use as monitor and my graphic card is a GTX970

My question is simple, should i go for 1920 x 1080 desktop resolution which is fine by me or should i go with the 3840 x 2160 resolution if its better ?

1/ The first problem is that in 4K resolution the desktop is extremely small even if i change the DPI and text size to 150%

2/ My second question is that i watch a lot of bluray and TV show (both are 1080p resolution) and if my desktop is 3840 x 2160 what are the drawbacks on image quality ? Is it better ? Is it worse ?

3/ For gaming, 4k resolution is clearly better so there is no issue there...

PS : I am 10 feet from the tv (300 cm)

Thanks a lot for your time and advise ;)

well at that distance you would probably need an 80" TV or bigger to be able to see the text fine. I sit 2 feet away of my 49" 4k monitor and text is perfect. Unless you can get closer to the TV then I would suggest to keep using 1080p

What size is the TV, and what version of Windows are you using?

Windows in general has terrible DPI scaling. For video it doesn't matter, but if you're using your TV as a productivity computer you might want to go 1080p. For some programs that don't respect DPI scaling you might even need to go 720p if you're 10' away, unless the TV is very large.

Since you only increased the scaling to 150%, I'm assuming you use Windows 7, since later versions allow 200% to be selected. However, you can set it to 200% in Win 7 too - In the display scaling menu, click the "Set custom text size" link on the left. While you're there, you might try deselecting "Use Windows XP style DPI scaling", which will change the way non-DPI-aware apps scale, and let you turn off the scaling for specific apps in their compatibility settings (for the few that don't work properly).

200% at 4k will be the same size as 100% at 1080p, but it will look much better.
