Advil or Tylenol better for fighting a hangover?

Multi-vitamin+gatorade+water. I've found NSAIDS to only compound my problem, and tylenol is not your liver's friend after a bout of drinking.

True, drink lots of, I mean lots of water. Also, eat anything that has glucose in it (for example, raw sugar). That helps to break down alcohol in your body. (I don't remember exact chemical reaction between glucose and alcohol groups, that was back in 1995, by 12th grade ;) )

Absolutely right. Especially B vitamins, I've heard. And if you're prone to binge drinking, for gods' and your liver's sake, don't take Tylenol.

Personally, I'd take both.

The tylenol is kinder on your stomach, and is probably considerably safer overall.

However, if you do take it you MUST make sure that you do not exceed the recommended dose, and you MUST NOT take any other medications that contain acetaminophen or paracetamol.

The most important thing, however, is plenty of fluid. Ideally, it should be isotonically balanced and supply a bit of sugar - fresh fruit juice or sports drinks are perfect in this regard.

Tylenol may be easier on your stomach, but advil is better for you all around. Tylenol's being found to cause problems. Looking for a link...

Aleve or anything without acetaminaphine, bad for the liver on top of the alcohol. But nothing cures a hangover quicker than a little of the hair of the dog.

Aleve or Advil work for me. Tylenyol has never had any effect on me since I was a kid. I do pop a LOT of advil after a hangover for it to work but the drinking 5 bottles of water and eating just doesn't cut it with the headache.

If your stomach can handle it take two Excedrin Migraine or Extra-Strength Excedrin. The only difference really is that the Migraine has 65mg of caffeine which is known to help and both contain 500mg of essentially Tylenol/Asprin.

Drink a liter of water or two before you go to bed and you'll be fine.

I was hungover this morning (pistons celebrations.... went to bad at 4, got up at 9) and it was mosly my stomach.
Tylenol works if you're feeling hazy, have a headache and feel like you are sea-sick(bad hangover), but wont help your stomach. Water and greasy foods seem to work decent for me.

Also Aderol does miracles, you'll feel completly great even though you just woke up and cant remeber what happened after the 10th shot

I know a great way to prevent hangovers...don't drink so much.

The only thing that ever worked for me was xenadrine (sp?). A friend of mine was taking this stuff to try to lose weight and found that they worked well as a hangover cure. I actually took one once and it worked quite well.

I don't think you can buy them anymore though.

I disagree. Advil is potentially quite nasty. It is well known to cause upset stomach, ulcers and internal bleeding. It can also cause kidney damage or exaccerbate heart problems.

Tylenol is very safe, with the exception of overdosage. Overdosage is a problem because it can cause severe liver damage. If you are a regular drinker (2 drinks a day or more), or are underweight, then you are at especially high risk of liver damage from overdose. Note that acetaminophen, the active ingredient, is found in lots of remedies, and over-the-counter hangover cures. If you don't check the ingredients carefully, you may accidentally overdose on it, and not even realise you have taken it in the first place! Medications like percocet, vicodin and lots of others contain a full dose of tylenol!

Tylenol has not been reported to cause liver injury at the recommended dose, expect in people with pre-existing severe liver disease, who have taken the max dose of tylenol daily for several weeks.

I've heard that the best, fastest hangover cure is IV fluids. Not many people have easy access to that, though.
