cpu: T-bird 1.2GHz
Memory: SDRAM 1G
video card: ATI 8500 64M + Letik TV 2000
hardrive: Seagate Barracuda IV 60G, 7200rpm
mobo: Abit KT-7A-raid
power supply: Antec 300W don't remember the exact model #
soundcard:Soundblaster Live mp3
monitor, planar 19 inch lcd , 25ms, SXGA

plan: this rig is still doing ok watching DVD and surfing the internet. but no good at game . Plus the ghosting makes me vomit? Upgrade to something can do good at least at XGA , say , for Doom3?

I also want to upgrade my monitor to a 23 inch 16ms LCD.

Any input? Thanks

How much are you looking to spend?

Cheap But Effective Doom 3 Machine would be

Amd 3000 64 200$
Msi Neo Platinum Mobo 120$
Nvidia GeForce 6800GT 400$
Use the same HardDrive
Use the same sound card
check to see if the same ram will work.

You might be able to use the same ps and case.

Upgrade the LCD 25ms to 16ms for no ghosting. Or get a CRT to save money.

720$

Save about 200$ if you go with an 2500xp + ECS Mobo at Fry's electronics.

520$

yea an a64 would be a good idea depending on how much u have to spend. plan on at least upgrading ur cpu, mobo, ram, and vid card. as far as a moniter that depends on how deep your pockets are. if it was me i would get a decent 19in crt for 250-300ish. also u may want to get a new hd and a dvd burner.

Haha. At first, I thought the title was 'advice on upgrading my 3 year old's rig.'

Geez! I wish I had that much cash to burn. I've been considering a Samsung 193P, ut $750 for a monitor is a bit much for me.

For 1.5K, you could get a Samsung 213T and then some. Maybe an LCD TV of some sort (a huge CRT seems to be too big and space-consuming).

My advice: lay off a little on the monitor and put some cash into other hardware. A decent video card will cost as much as $300, and then you still have outdated mobo, CPU and RAM.

karma4jake is very much correct. It might be more convenient and money saving to start anew with a barebone.

thanks, dude
I think I should keep the rig for email and stuff and start a new rig, as you said.
However, I want the HP L2335 23 inch LCD so bad, so I will not have another grand for a new rig.
Damn.
