advices needed: I want a bike (no, not the one with pedals)

Heya,
i'm from europe and i had a bike since i was 12. Now i moved to US about 3 years ago and i havent been riding since. Now theres this empty sapce inside of me

Anyway im gonna be going to college next year and im plaining on living in a dorm/apartment. So i was thinking about getting a streetbike, as the place where im going (university of michigan / ann arbor) has terrible parking situation. First off you pay big money to even park in the city and then theres the actually lack of parking spots. Bike would solve the problem, cuz you can park it pretty much anywhere. The only problem i can think of is winter. Up here in michigan we get quite bit of snow, so i dont know how well is that gonna work out. I was looking for lighter bike - around 500cc. I dont wanna spend more that 3 gs tho, i gotta keep some pocket cash

You could look into a Ninja 500 or 250. the 500 will be about $5K the 250 about $3.2K new. With your budget you'll probably have to go used. trycycletrader You can find some great deals there. If your up north you might not want to go with a sport bike, you might think about a dual purpose bike. for winter riding.
