Advice with current Opteron 146 Overclock

I've been trying two things really, the first is to get my current overclock stable which I think I've achieved with 310 x 9 @ 1.45v, idle temp is 36C and under load its 49C. I'm running Prime at the moment and its been going for about 30 minutes so far. At 280 x 10 @ 1.45v it just wasnt stable for some reason. I left Memtest running overnight with my htt @ 290 and when I came back to it this morning I had 25 passes and no errors so that leads me to believe its the cpu.

I followed the A64 overclocking guide on here and set my multi to 6, set the memory from 200 down to 100 and upped the htt until I got to a htt speed of 400 and the machine booted into Windows fine but I got a bit scared and didn't go any higher. I then moved onto step 2 of which I got to about 275 htt x 10 which would still Prime but anything above that Prime failed instantly. I've tried all voltages ranging from 1.3 up to 1.6 and none made any difference in terms of making Prime more stable. I also tried upping the LDT volts but that seemed the make the machine not want to get past the Windows logo on bootup.

I then knocked the multi down to 9, turned the ram voltage up to 2.9 and started upping the htt more until I got to 310. Anything higher regardless of the voltage would not Prime for more than a few seconds. I put the ram back down to 100 on a divider to eliminate that and it made no difference to Prime.

I'm starting to come to the conclusion that this Opteron does not want to go above 2.8Ghz and is not interested in getting to 3Ghz. Does anyone know why this may be or if there is anything else I can try? I have seen people in the Opteron Overclocking Results thread that have hit 2.8 and much higher with the same stepping chip and motherboard as what I'm using and the only differences are they are using an XP-90/XP-120 where as I'm using a TT Big Typhoon, and their ram differs from mine of which mine is at 2.5-4-4-8 and I have been told it is some of the best ram available.

Can anyone please help?

luck of the draw. sure you see a lot of people bragging about hitting 3.0, but that's not an acurate sample of likelyhood that yours will. How many people will start threads bragging about how they couldn't hit 3.0?

Thanks for your replies. Just out of curiosity which do you think is better for my system, 310x9 or 280x10 as he ram runs at DDR620 or DDR580 depending on what the htt is set, which do you think gives the better performance?

Also, do you think it may help my overclock if I removed the IHS?

Try lowering the memory speed and see if it helps any. I have heard of some cases where the processor sometimes can't handle both high CPU and memory speeds simulanteously but is okay with one or the other.

I was also hitting a wall around 2.8ghz with a supposedly good stepping, but in my case I later found that this 146 doesn't like the 10x multiplier for some reason. It does 3ghz with 9x333 or 8x375 without any problems.
