Advice Wanted: Selling a large ticket item online

I recently have offered a large ticket item (>$500) for sale on-line. I have found a buyer who seems to be credible but I have little experience with such transactions (I normally am on the Hot Deal buying side of things). So I have a few questions:

1) For the transfer of money between the two parties, what methods offer the most protection to both buyer and seller at a reasonable cost? I was thinking C2it, though I have not checked out all of the details.

2) For shipping, which carrier offers the most reasonable rates? The object is about 60 lbs and perhaps 2.5'x2.5'x1'. Are there any other large freight options that are alternatives to the major carriers (UPS, FedEx, and USPS)?

3) Any other tips and suggestions that made your large ticket transactions go smoothly?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Whatever you do DO NOT accept Paypal. If you really have to then only accept non-credit card payments with paypal. I personally prefer bidpay.com or money orders. I am not familiar with c2it. I recently shipped 230 pounds with Fedex ground for 140 dollars only. 50 pounds shipped to NJ cost around 35 dollars.
