advice to lower my system's noise

I've read through alot of the posts, so I have a few ideas, but I'm still curious what people would suggest. I know it will never be silet, but I would like my system as quiet as possible. Currently I have:
Abit K7A-RAID
1.4 GHz T-bird
Leadtek 4400 GeForce 128MB video card
40 GB Maxtor
120 GB Seagate Barracuda
160 GB Samsung
Pioneer A5 4x DVDR/RW
LG 52x32x52 CD-RW
370W quiet power supply (it has an intake and an exhaust)
3 case fans (1 in front, 1 on the side, 1 in back)

I'm thinking about upgrading to a mobile 2400XP CPU, which can run at 1.45V. With that, I could probably get away with a quiet HSF unit and 1-2 less case fans. I know I'll have to do tests at idle and full load to know for sure how its all working, but what would you recomend:
1) for a HSF for a mobile 2400XP running at 1.45V (I don't want to overclock)
2) the number/type/placement of the case fans

Of course, the cheaper the better 🙂 Thanks

I second that. And for placement of case fans you'd probably be just fine (possibly better off) with just one at the front (bottom preferable) and one at the rear (top preferable).

1. fan controller
2. if you can get some insulation you can paste/tape in on your case panels (I did that and noise has been reduced)
3. HSF that's quiet

Good luck

fan controller, works wonders.

you can try getting some neoprene/rubber washers and install them between the fan and the case. that also cuts the noise down a bit. it's like 49 cents for a 4 pack, very cheap.

but yea, cut out those pre-made grills, they suck and make noise.
