advice to dorks: walk slower!

This is just a litte reminder to you fellow dorks - walk slowly, with purpose and a destination. I used to walk around frantically with a huge book bag, knocking into people and looking like i'm either a terrorist or a major dork. A friend of mine told me to slow down so I listened. It sounds like simple and stupid advice, and it is. But I've seen it time and again - dorks walk really, really quickly and always bump into people. Get a smaller bag while you're at it - carry around only what you need and leave the 40 gadgets at home. Get a nice messenger bag and walk slowly. Now I walk so slowly that people look at me, not the funny "what the hell is he doing??" look but a look of intrigue - I come off as confident and calm instead of insecure and mildly crazy.

Just sharing some advice, don't flame me if you're a firm supporter of walking like you're on crack 😉

Wait, you would often knock into people? sounds more like a depth perception problem more than anything. Time to get those coke bottle glasses checked.
😉

I probably do have a depth perception issue - now I walk slow enough to counter balance myself, gracefully walking to the side, slowly of course, to compensate 😉

I hate to be the one to tell you this, but walking slower doesn't make you less of a dork.

I know, I'm still a massive dork - but it's harder to spot from across the street!

Well at least you are a self confident dork.

Or I *appear* to be a self confident dork. That's the trick!

Screw it, I walk fast and don't bump into people. I'll continue to do so even if it makes me look like a dork, because I hate wasting time walking.

absolutely. screw the slow idiots.

I walk quickly and with purpose. I have noticed that people here in New York will try to run you over, no matter how big you are. I'm 6'2" and 250 pounds, and little 5' women will literally try to walk through me.

One day I'm going to let them try.

Anyway, I don't see how walking more slowly makes you look any less dorky. At work, anyone who walks slowly looks like they have no sense of urgency and are lazy.
