I am currently running a 450 mhz p2 with an intel 82443 440bx/zx 100 fsb chipset mobo (GW OEM) and because of the price cut on coppermines, i was thinking of picking up an 800 mhz with a 133 fsb. Can anyone recommend a good processor that will work well with my herc ddr-dvi 32 meg prophet? I was thinking about going with via chipset in the form of a GA-6VX7-4X. Let me know if this is a good idea.

If you're referring to the 800eb (6x133), it may not be the best value out there. Perhaps a 100fsb processor and overclock?

Nvidia Geforce DDR are capable of tolerating the 89 agp freg that arises come overcloking to 133 on bx boards. Don't know if the intel board supports coppermines though, check to see if it allow 1.6volts, and pci 1/4 divider.

If you want to go the via133a route, stick with asus, soyo, msi, abit
more frequent bios updates and overall better support than gigabyte

Well I agree with Tonec, you should get a 100 MHz FSB then overclock. Though if you want to overclock use anything but a Intel manufactured board. Right now, all new Intel boards i think starting from the SE440BX-2 support coppermines, though Intel boards cannot be overclocked, though the chipsets can on other boards, such as Abit, Asus etc...

would it be possible to o/c a p600eb up to 800? (133X6), or would a p 600 at 100X8(!) be possible? What would be the best processor/mobo combination to pull this off? pardon my newbieness and thanks in advance.

600e at 800 is a pretty sure bet
700e at 933 is about the limit of cb0 coppermines, you can take a chance on one or you can buy pretested

600e overclocks 6x133
8x100 is not possible because of the multiplyer lock, no way to defeat this on intel processors

if you plan on oc than you need some pretty decent pc133 ram

check their cpu database for some idea on the relative success of each cpu
