Advice: Selling Older Computers

Hey All:

I used to work from home on a lot of different contracts, and I built a number of PCs (8 in all) from pretty decent components for my testing.....unfortunately at the time, I wasn't aware of VMWare, or I could have saved a good bit of money. Most of the machines are getting pretty old now, but they still run fine.

Example Specs:
High End:
AthXP 1600+
40GB HD
512 Meg PC133 SDRAM

Low End:
Duron 800/900
512Megs PC133 SDRam
10-20GB HD

Old Servers:
Dell 4400 PowerEdge (A Monster)
Dell 4200 PowerEdge (Not near as big as the 4400)

Dell Laptop (Inspiron 5000 @600Mhz 256 Megs Ram, 2 HDs, CDRW, DVD)

All the cases are Antecs and the P/S is 300W. I used to sell on EGAY a lot, but the last lot of stuff I sold, I had a very bad experience over two months. Not one, not two, but three payers posted Negative Feedback on me without even contacting me first. In ALL cases, the issues were resolved speedily, and without issue. The first was MY Fault. I sent a guy a KVM without the Adapter, and I refunded his money. The other two were related to payment. I only take Money Order only....and two people posted Negative Feedback before I even recieved their checks. Both posted follow ups to say that everything was ok after they recieved the product.....but anyway......this experience has made me doubt using Ebay.

I guess I'm just asking for advice on selling the items. I've never bought/sold before on any board like this....and I made a post for my laptop about a year ago, and didn't get any replies. Was that because I didn't have any Heatware feedback?

Regarding the machines......Since tehy are all custom builds......would it be better to sell the components...?

Any advice appreciated, especially from those that have experience selling on boards like AT/For Sale/Trade.

Thanks,
calpha

It would probably be easier to sell the componets then the whole systems here. If you want to sell whole system you could try e-gay

Try to sell them locally if you can, but make sure you make it clear you aren't providing any type of technical support.

Just because you got some negative feedbacks you dont want to use eBay? Why? You said yourself that it was all just miscommunications and everything was fine in the end.

I don't really understand.

I've had good luck selling my old computer stuff on ebay though. I bought a box of 50 mobos a while back(all socket 7) for 50$.. made about 250$ off them all together. 🙂

Well, the negative feedbacks were the first part. I should have explained further. THe other part was mostly me b/c of the fact that I don't take paypal. I guess if I did take paypal, it'd be a lot easier. I was more wondering about selling items here in the FS/FT forum wihtout having any heatware feedback AND if people thought I'd be better off selling the computers on EBAY since they're older......I guess I'll probably end up selling them on ebay, as I don't see a lot of people that have sold custom made computers (by the whole lot) here. Thanks.

I did try selling some of them locally, but after the cost of putting one in the local classifieds, I figured there's got to be a cheaper way.

Thansk for the answers.
