Hey guys, like half the world it seems, I'm planning my first homebuilt rig and am hoping that you kind folk could give me your seal of approval. I've been reading these and other forums for a while now and have a couple of compatibilty questions and the like. Such as PSU/MOBO issues that I heard about and whether or not I'll have difficulties with bios/conroe compatibilty out of the box as I do not have another CPU sitting around in order to flash the bios.

While I don't plan to overclock immediately I'm planning on doing so in the future. This will be a working and gaming computer and I generally just want it to be able to handle the vast majority of what I try and throw at it.

My current computer is a Gateway laptop bought in the summer of '03.

Planned rig:

CPU:
Core 2 Duo E6600

Mobo:
Asus P5W HD DELUXE

RAM:
Corsair Cas 4 PC2 6400

HD's:
WD Raptor 74 gig
Seagate Barracuda 320 gig

Optical Drives:
2 NEC 3550A

Graphics Card:
Sapphire X1900XT

Floppy Drive:
Sony Floppy

Card Reader:
Linkskey Card Reader

Monitors:
Viewsonic VX922
Viewsonic VX2025WM

Case:
Lian Li PC-60BPlusII

Power Supply:
Antec NeoHE
I really want a modular PSU; I like the features of this one (efficiency etc) but have some concerns with ASUS mobo compatibility. Also considering
Hiper Modular PSU
I am concerned about the Hiper's low efficiency despite its rave reviews
and
Enermax Liberty

Some good old Arctic Silver

I already have a Logitech wireless keyboard and mouse and some Creative 2.1 speakers that ive been using with my gateway.

This puts my total cost in the $2500 range to give you an idea of what I'm looking to spend. I do not however have a hard cap.

Thank you for any help and most importantly thank you for putting up with people like me constantly asking for advice; hey, if you are going to do something, you might as well ask the advice of someone who knows more than you.

Lose the Raptor and get the 1900XTX, it will be much more worth the money.

Personally, with a high end computer I would either use Seasonic or a PCPnC power supply. However, I do like the liberty series from Enermax.

Also check out the deals on the Samsuns 204B. It is on sale at BB I believe for $299 or so and you can find it at newegg/zzf for about $285
