I recently setup a new machine C2D 6400 , and I just replaced the stock hsc a Scythe Mine B rev2 cooler due to it running hot in the summer heat. I was able to bring down idle temps 6-8C now running at 40-42C idle, and load reaches 53-55C instead of mid to high 60s on the stock cooler. I right now have the scythe vertical fan pointing at my rear exhaust fan. I believe these Temps are fairly standard/safe c2d from everything i have been able to research.
It appears that the real culprit is the BFG 8800gtx couple with the summer heat. It idles at 60-62C, never seen load go beyond 69C and raises my ambient to low-mid 50C. Everything I have research tells me that is a average to low temp for the gpu on stock cooling. My concern here is how the stock heatsink blows hot air back into my case instead of out of it.
The system is stable at stock speeds, i have not had any need to overclock since everything runs smoothly. I wanted to confirm with the cooling guru's though that my temps are safe. My system is in my sig and i will sum up my temps below. I can lower all temps by aprox 3-5 degrees by turning my exhaust fans from med to high, but i am unsure if the extra noise is worth it if everything is safe already.
cpu cores 40-42 idle, 53-55 load.
gpu core 60-62 idle, 69 load.
Ambient Temp 50 idle, 55+ load (this is primarily what I worry about)
Room temp is 25-28 since summer arrived.
Thanks,
Sharp
**Edit: Opps, posted in the wrong forums, I see no option to delete or move it to cooling.
