What would be better ,,1 ATI 6990 4GB or 2 Nvidia GTX 580 cards in SLI mode.
It would be used in the game Trainz sim TS 12

Thanks Shaynoa

I thank you for your time ,,,
with the sim game Trainz it is CPU driven and it needs a CPU that is fast they claim it dosen't use sli or crossfire

Something doesn't smell right here.

my 1200 watt broke down and yes there are claims that train will not use sli or crossfire but in Trainz 2010 sli and crossfire gave better frame rate than a single card ,
and at the end of the day is there anything wrong with asking questions to get advise from people who are suppost to know
rather than Something doesn't smell right here as you posted ,
and if people ask for advise then give it without ridiquell
for a person situtation doesn't have to be run be you and checked in the first place

So to sum it up, you bought 2 - GTX580's for a game that doesn't support multi-gpu setups, and you're asking if another multi-gpu setup would be better.

For a game that is CPU bound.

Do I have that right?

Edit:
Minimum:

* OS: Windows XP (SP3)
* Processor: Pentium D 3.4GHz (or equiv)
* Memory: 1 GB RAM
* Graphics: nVidia GeForce 7200/128MB or equivalent
* Hard Drive: Approx. 16GB hard drive space
* Sound: DirectX 9.0c or compatible Sound Card,
* DirectX 9.0c
* Mouse and keyboard

Recommended:

* OS: Vista/Windows 7 (64 Bit),
* Processor: Core 2 Duo (or equivalent),
* Memory: 2 GB RAM,
* Graphics: nVidia GeForce 8800 (or equiv)
* Hard Drive: Approx. 16GB hard drive space,
* Sound: DirectX 9.0c or compatible Sound Card,
* DirectX 9.0c
* Mouse and keyboard

yes not real smart was it ,,,but i do play other games as well
but my main concern was the power supply because as i said 2 cards were better in Trainz 2010 than 1 but in Trains TS 12 1 is better , and do you have any idea when the new ivybridge is coming out because it looks as if it will run Trainz better than any CPU before it
thank you

Yes, get yourself an Intel SSD and install games to it. There will be no delay in loading any part of the game from the SSD.

580 's cost like 490$, so 2 of them costs you around 980$.

6990 go for ~700-740$.

The 580 setup will be abit faster (than just 1x 6990), but you ll have to fork out a extra ~280$.

The best option is to go for a 6990 + 6970 in Tri Crossfire for about 1000$, but it ll be MUCH faster than 2x 580 SLI that cost almost the same.

if your willing to spend 1000$ for GPU's.
