Hi,

I'm putting together a gaming system based on the Core 2 Duo 6600 and Intel mobo D975XBX. As per the mobo specifications, it only takes 533/677mhz memory, but I noticed that in AnandTech's tests they used the Corsair XMS2 DDR2-800 4-4-4-12 (1GB x 2) - which is exactly what I was looking into buying.

So my question is: is it compatible? Is it ok to use a 800mhz memory if the board only works with 533/677mhz memories? If not, what would be my best option? (I'm thinking performance, price is secondary... sort of).

Any advice will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The 975x chipset only supports 667Mhz memory directly, but you can use 800Mhz memory just fine. If in doubt you can get some 667Mhz Corsair and save some money while you're at it. The difference would be minimal at best unless you're planning to overclock with the mod.
