Short Story-

I buy Xbox, we agree to cross-ship. I shipped on Thursday, he was going to ship today. I did ship and provided him the DC# to show it was shipped.

Anyway, he PMs me today saying that he left his fiance to pack it, she dropped it and now it doesn't work. He's willing to ship the cashier's check back when he gets it PLUS my fees ($12 for shipping and making the cashier's check).

BUT

I don't necessarily trust the guy. I noticed he bumped the thread AFTER we confirmed the deal and I told him I shipped it. Just seemed fishy.

I believe I can go to the bank and have in cancelled. But that costs me $25. What I am willing to do is split the fees with him for it. Is that fair?

What do you all think?

Thanks!

It will actually save him the time and trouble of returning your cashier's check. It sounds fair.

Right, but I already spent the $12.

I would be losing $25 on something that isn't my fault.

Oh didn't think of that. Then don't cancel the check, have him send it back to you. Now if he doesn't, then cancel the check. Although you are not too sure if he cashes it in the mean time.

haha, sorry. I mis-read what you said before.

I would be willing to take the $18 (grand total divided by 2) hit because I do feel bad for him (if he is telling me the truth).

That's why I'm getting the check cancelled. Has anyone done this before btw? On the receipt it says that a check may be cancelled and re-issued if the original is "lost, stolen, or destroyed". This one isn't really any of them.

I'm new to trading but I would NEVER send a personal check.

Always money order, cashier's check or wire transfer.

Not a personal check. It was a cashier's check.
