Hi All,

I currently have a 19" Samsung (4:3) LCD monitor, and I am looking to upgrade to a 22" widescreen LCD. I have been doing a ton of research, and I am hoping to get some advice.

I first must note that I do not play games that require high FPS or anything like that (I mainly play turn-based games). I mainly watch movies/shows on my computer, so I am looking for an LCD more geared towards that then games. What advice would you recommend here? Seems like most/all of the LCD's available are kind of 'geared' towards gamers.

I am happy with my current Samsung, so I was looking at the 225BW by Samsung. Any thoughts on this? Any different recommendations? I'd like to keep it under $400.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If you mainly watch movies on your computer in widescreen format, then 22'' is not your best bet; unless you don't mind backlight bleeding. All 22'' LCD's use the same panel, which is a TN panel. If you're watching a movie in widescreen with black bars at the top/bottom you're going to see the bleeding. For games, thus far my Dell 22'' E228WFP looks great, and so does everything in general and it's not frequent I'll have a solid black screen so the bleeding doesn't bother me, since I have a 32'' LCD hooked up to my computer as well, for movies/media. Anyways, if you have any more questions about 22'' models, check out the "Video" forum.

if you have access to educational discounts, I just grabbed a Dell 22" WFP (DVI, 800:1) for $230 shipped.

$230 shipped? My god.. that's cheap. So tempting to get another one and run dual screen with those. Hook me up, haha.

I have access to Small Business discounts there. Any comments on backlight bleed from the Dell E228WFP (which is the model I assume you were referring to)?

InFeXiOn: I see you have that Dell model. How bad is the backlight bleed? I went to CompUSA today to check out the Samsung 225BW, and the backlight bleed wasn't that bad, although it was noticeable. But I currently have the Samsung 940B, which also has some bleed, and I've learned to live with it.

(I didn't see the Video forum, I should have created this there. Hopefully a mod can move my thread there.)

How did you manage that? I have access to education discounts (I am at UNT right now) and have never seen a deal like that.

Well that's not good news. Was hoping to nail a 22" when my tax return gets back, and hoping to get one that'll make me happy for at least 2 years (current 17" only made me happy for 1.5 so far).

Does your school have a dell store? I work at Emory University and we have a tax free store that has "different" (sometimes worse/sometimes better) prices than the usual dell stores.
