Hi all,

Just looking for some input on which external HD to get from my family PC. It is a Dell -The internal HD is 80 GB and is almost full (79 GB), so I thought it would be a good idea to get some more space, and also to back up the files already on the HD.

Looking for as cheap as possible, but yet still maintaining good quality . Something around the range of 250-500 GB would be best too. From my initial research I thought that Seagate produced the best in terms of reliability, so am maybe leaning towards them for the time being.

Any input would be appreciated.

Cheers.

Seagate externals do have a 5 yr. warranty which is nice.

They also use incredibly terrible enclosures for heat dissipation.
Their enclosures are actually a plastic-aluminum-plastic sandwich, which means the drive cooks nicely inside.

I'd personally suggest an enclosure + HDD separately, as i dislike the enclosures on pretty much all the externals i've seen.

I've used LaCie 3.5" external drives pretty extensively with no complaints. They're well priced, and attractive.

For 2.5" drives, I'll only ever recommend Western Digital Passports.
