I am looking for help in selecting a video card.
All I need is a card to run two LCD wide screen monitors not cloned.
This is a business oriented application.
Most of what I see is overkill for my needs.
Looking for good quality screen resoloution ( no hi def )
Low power drain
ease of install ( I am new to this)
Your thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

If the apps are all 2D, then even two old 16mb PCI cards will be quite sufficient.
The next step up would be a cheep, dual output card like an 8600.

Bill, thanks for taking the time to help this newbie.
I have found a PNY GeForce 8600 GT Video Card - 512MB DDR2, PCI Express, (Dual Link) DVI, VGA, Low Profile card.
Is this what you had in mind ?
Will I need a low profile kit ?
Any and all advice about my selection and install is appreciated.
I am aware that this is a really basic install, but this is my first.
We all have been there (philosophically speaking) .
So once again thanks for your help.

Get a cheap ATI or Nvidia card with two outputs. Intall in your AGP/PCI-E/PCI slot. Install the drivers from ATI/Nvidia.

Could you tell us what PC you intend to install this in (manufacturer & model number)? That could give us a bit more info whether you need PCI-E or AGP, standard height or half-height, etc. If it's a home built system, then please list the motherboard manufacturer/model number and power supply manufacturer/model number if possible.

Creig, thanks for the reply.
I have an Emachine Model T6414
I will be running 2 Dell SE198WFP monitors
The more info you can provide the better.
Assume I know nothing.( about install, or selection of card or where best to purchase)
Thanks

And what apps do you plan on running? That will dictate what card(s) you need, but an 8600 should be OK for pretty much anything short of video rendering/gaming.

You just plug in the card and hook up the monitors. Windows (since 98SE) will see both monitors. You may need a DVI-To-VGA converter plug, or vice versa, but they're cheep.

If its for business you'd be fine with a slice of bologna as long as it has 2 outputs on it to connect your two monitors/projectors/whatever. If you wanna add extra cheese that's your call but it wont make it taste any better and you know they charge way more for cheese.
