Advice on UT mods and skins

I was hoping someone could help me with UT mods and skins. I've been only a casual UT demo user for some time. However, I recently got the GOTY Edition and it's hooking me fast. I have seen a lot of sites that talk about mods and skins you can add but I wanted to ask the more experienced of you about using these:

1- Will downloading and installing the mods/skins out there make my UT or system to run "buggier". I honestly don't know what it takes to create the mods and I don't know if "homemade" ones are less stable.

2- From my multiplayer experience so far, I have seen a lot of maps that I don't have but most games have the same skins. Are a lot of other skins in use but I simply don't see them because I don't have them installed? I join multiplayer straight from the UT multiplayer list, I don't belong to any particular gaming sites like mplayer and the like.

3- Can anyone recommend better sites for downloading the mods and skins? Esp. any places where the site administrator zips a lot together to make it easier to obtain a lot of files with one long download?

I hate to sound so clueless, but I would appreciate any (friendly) advice that helps me get even more enjoyment out of UT. Thanks!

1- nope your system wont get buggier

2- if a server was running a skin that you didnt haev then you would automaticly download that skin the same as when you download the maps.

Thanks for the tip! NaliCity is an impressive place. I am pretty pathetic at UT but I still love to play. Just the feeling of foating and flying across some of the maps is amazing - I tried Hall of Giants tonight and I was blown away (countless times)!
