Advice on QUIET and small case for Athlon system

Hey guys, I am putting together a new system, I would like some advice on a nice quiet and small case. Here is what I am going to put in it:

Abit KR7ARAID motherboard (compgeeks)
2x256mb PC2100 memory chips (PNY Technologies)
Athlon XP 1800+ retail processor
Western Digital 80GB 8MB Cache special edition HD
TDK VeloCD 40x12x48 CDRW
Matrox G450 dualhead video card
some ethernet card
M-Audio Delta 1010 soundcard
(might also put a cheapo soundcard in here too)

So, I don't plan on putting a bunch of drives in there so I would like something small and quiet... with enough fans to keep it cool... I don't mind paying a few extra dollars, I am tired of listening to high pitch screams from computers!

any suggestions?

Thanks!

The Antec SX635 is a quiet case and it's not too big. It has 3 external 5.25" drive bays and is about as high as a regular "Dell size" 2 bay case. It will fit inside almost any enclosure that a regular size case fits in. The Antec is a steel case and this helps keep it quiet. It also has very good ventilation so you don't need to run tons of fans to keep things cool. You could probably get away with one or two Panaflo L1As to cool your XP CPU.

Also look at the Antec PerformancPlus 660. It's basically the same case as the SX635 but it has a quieter PSU and front-mounted USB and Firewire ports.

I would suggest the Antec Performance Plus 660 case as well. It has a decent psu and it's pretty quiet along with a nice case that is laid out well with good airflow.

I second the Antec SX635 recommendation. Solid and quiet case, easy to cool.

(Whew, I can post again. Got nervous for a while! :roll😉

I second the vote for Antec. I jsut built an Athlon system (a larger one using one of their server towers) and I am very pleased with it. I also bought a few Antec brand thermal-controlled fans for it to keep it quite, yet cool it sufficiently when needed and I've been very happy.

Yes I would also recomend the antec sx635. I would use 1 panaflo in back and maybe use a pal8045 for the heatsink along with 1 panaflo on that. If you want it really quiet I would use a seagate hard drive, as they are silent. I have built a similar setup to this, and it is almost silent.

It's not the CASE that's generally loud, it's the FAN on the heatsink. So it makes little sense to try to find a quiet case. Most case fans are very quiet, such as those in most Antec cases. However, your heatsink's fan noise will drown all other noise. However, the 92 mm fan in the Enermax power supplies is annoyingly loud, so I'd recommend replacing it with a nice quiet fan. In fact, that's the only thing that was more noise that the CPU fan in my.. case.

Also, you should cut out the case's fan grilles if you want even less noise. They add a lot of noise.
