My current LCD monitor, a ViewSonic VA800 (17.4"), is starting to have problems. I'm looking at an LG L1980U or L1980Q monitor, Q has 8ms and U has 12ms. Does anyone have any experience with either of these?

I am also looking to install a new video card with DVI output for the new monitor. I currently have an ASUS V9520 Magic card (FX5200) which does not have a DVI output.

My system is an ASUS P4P800 Deluxe motherboard with 1 G of ram (dual channel), P4 2.4 with hyper threading, and I'm using XP home.

I do not do any heavy gaming, mostly photo editing. I would appreciate any info that you can supply.

For photo editing, I would definately recommend something with an 8 bit panel (like a Samsung 910T/LG L1910), generally the "faster" panels use dithering to achieve 16.2 million colors, which may not be 'ideal' for color sensitive work. Downside is you may notice a bit more "blur" effect (especially in FPS games) with the slower panels.

For a video card...I'd say a Sapphire Radeon 9600 (minimum), or better a 9800 pro/nvidia 6600GT would make an excellent choice for the occasional game.

cheers

Thank you for your reply and I'm sorry to take so long in getting back. My cable went out and I just got back on line.

After reading your comments, I did some further studying of panels and concluded that it would be better for me to get an 8 bit panel. I don't do any 3D gaming, so I don't need the speed. I'm now looking at the Samsung 193p or the new version of it, the 920t.

I am looking at the Sapphire Radeon 9600 Pro (128 mb) for the video card. This should be all that I need.

Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
