A while back I aksed you guys advice for Abit or Asus MB for my duron 600.

Things have changed (daddy is in a generous mood) and now I going for Tbird 800, Asus A7v, 30gb IBM 7200rpm, 128 Pc133.

Only niggle is graphics card and monitor.
I need a GOOD 17' : which do you recommend?
Radeon or Geforce2 ? (is the image quality as big as they say it is, no reviewer has ever mentioned it but in screenshots it is sometimes noticeable.)

if you are looking for framerates get the geforce, the new driver updates make the geforce line the best that i know of. warning though the sky of Q3A will look bad, but in my opinion they are awesome cards and a good deal, plus nvidia is a lot better about drivers than ATI. even the detonator drivers are being updated and you will see continued performance upgrades. as far as the moniter goes i'm in love with my 19" optiquest. and i found it for $290. it is flat and awesome. i found it here and they also have some really good deals on 17" moniters. I hopes this helps. also if you have a certain moniter in mind you might want to trypricewatch and then check out how the resellers rate. if there is anything else PM me.

I say if you can, get a 19" You can find them nice and cheap. Look for KDS or Optiquest.

thanks, I have a trinitron TV and it looks very nice, so I think I'll check out Sony and Optiquest (never heard of them tho).

I mistyped something in my last post, real question was :
Is the Image quality of the geforce bad, in comparison with a radeon (if I'm getting a nice monitor I want a nice picture to look at!) ?

Don't know how generous or pimpish Daddy actually is, but don't go ghetto on the monitor. The monitor is the endpoint of everything. It displays everything your computer does, and if it's not clear, or the colors suck, then you're S.O.L.

also, the monitor depreciates the least. So if you already have a good monitor, you don't have to upgrade when you upgrade everything else. Tell daddy this, and have him breathe a sigh of relief when he thinks, "I'm sure glad I spent $X on that monitor, because in the long run, it'll save me a ton!" Or he could beat you up. Good luck.

I have a Sony 200ES 17" that I purchased about 1 year ago. Love it-great, sharp picture. Can't go wrong with Sony.

i've tried a couple of "19 & "17 trinitron monitors & my last "17 monitor i tried has a diamondtron tube & i think it's has brighter colors & sharper text, i brought a viewsonic pf77 for $359, it's a high price & cost more than some "19 monitors but it's very sharp & supports digital DVI, so if you buy a videocard that has support for digital monitor, you can use it with this instead of upgrading again. optiquest is the low end value line monitors from viewsonic, i tried one of those before & it won't make you look like a good person if you brought this for someone, value line means the same thing on all products, it's like buying a value line car, don't expect air bags to fly out in less than 10secs after impact, & expect them to pop on contact with your head.
