advice on msi Kt4v

Hi to all........
I want a bit of advice on this motherboard. MSI KT4V-MS6712. Well first of all i am living in India and we have scarcity of nforce2 chipset motherboards here(like a7n8x). So they are selling at prices that are beyond my reach(especially since i am buying a geforce 4 ti agp with pixelview tv tuner also) So i have to do bit of cost cutting. Of course i don't want the chipset to be so bad that it effects the performance.
Thats why........ Anybody hows is this motherboard. I am also gettin KT4 ultra for about 2000(about 30$) more(with onboard lan, serial ata) but really i am not interested in lan and all. I am not going to build a network and am going to use computer only for either for surfing, some college work and for playing games. Thats why i am going for plain mobo. And this board has VIA 400 chipset with ddr400 support and ata133 and is relatively new.
I just want to know whether my needs will be met with this mobo(especially gaming needs) and if there are any probs. with this mobo.
Thanks to all in advance.

I used the KT4V for a few days. My personal opinion on the nForce motherboards is that they're kinda overrated. I don't think the Athlon needs dual channel memory. My computer still screams with single channel on a KT400 chip. I gave up the MSI for an Abit with more stuff built in. The MSI is a quality product. If you don't want to do any overclocking, any decent KT400 board will do okay. I personally don't see the purpose of chasing benchmarks for nothing.
No hard drive uses the full potential of ATA133, even ATA100, so you should be okay there.
That motherboard accepts no more than than a 333 MHz FSB Athlon. I don't know how it overclocks if you want to do that, because I haven't tried, so instead of getting DDR400, you might want to get better DDR333 and tweak your memory timings. If you do want to OC, you might want the DDR400 for some extra headroom.
I hope this was helpful. I tried anyways.

hi,
I have changed my plan now. I am now going for asus A7V8X. How is this motherboard. Is it better then msi? I have seen the reviews of this mobo and found them quite good.
And you are right happy cracker, I am not interested in overclocking and all. I am happy with what i get🙂
But anybody do tell me your opinions about a7n8x mobo.

Oops, Read a7v8x everywhere including the last line
(I have heardc so much about a7n8x that my hands just go on typing a7n8x🙂

I have built a system with the MSI KT4V-L and it is one sweet little board.

I like the lan and six USB and decent sound. It makes a fine system board. Has XP3200+ support with the latest BIOS.

It was very stable and after some tweaking quite fast.

I would not hesitate to recomend it as a value alternative.

Ok.
But one question? Is Kt4v-L better then a7v8x?
Its very important 'cos i read a review of kt4v (i don't know which site but you can get it on google) and it said that the board was unstable.
So thats why i am in double mind.
What do you advice Kt4v or a7v8x?

I wish I could give you a better answer, but as I only used it for a few days (<week) I can't say for sure. I do know I had no problems during the time I used it. Plugged into it was a wireless lan PCI card, ATA RAID card with 2 hd, old cdrom. Probably about an average system (minus the raid of course), but if you're not going to oc, well iron woode said it best, "I would not hesitate to recommend it as a value alternative." Hey Iron, do you know how it handles DDR400? My manual for I guess the older BIOS said it only liked one stick in DDR400 mode. If you say it has XP3200 support, I would imagine they've taken care of it. Aceajay, if you lived a bit closer, I have one to sell ya. Welcome to the forums, btw

🙂
lived a bit closer?????//
Man did i live in US i would have taken a7n8x. I donot know whats the problem here in India. No body is talking about nforce2 chipset. (No body talks about amd i may add. Intel has a complete domination here)
But anyway thanks to u all. I guess its a toss of die btw. asus a7v8x and msi Kt4v😉
