Hi,
Can someone please advise? I need to build NOW. But I can't decide what mobo I need.
Does the following make sense - if not why not?

1. I don't need cutting edge , but would like to stay at about the equivalent of todays XP 1700+
power for as long as possible, just by upgrading the processor when necessary. I would prefer
NOT to have to overclock, but would do if really pushed.
2. I believe that AMD is most suitable as they don't change sockets as often as Intel.
3. If I buy a socket A board, I will be able to use Athlons up to and including Barton (up to what? 3.5Ghz??)
4. This would mean buying a mobo with FSB=333 rather than 266, also core voltage down to 1.4-1.5
( Thoroughbred will already have gone down to 1.6 and Barton is smaller).
5. There would be no other BIOS issues ( other than FSB and volts ) stopping me upgrading.
6. I would need a multiplier of 3500 / 333 i.e. 11
7. I want to avoid hammer for as long as poss as this would mean a new mobo.

If all the above is true, can anyone suggest a mobo for me? Thanks
Bob.

The socket A platform will never get anywhere close to 3.5GHz. I wouldn't plan on much over 2GHz. I think as of now, there will be no barton. You may want to contact AGodspeed for more info on AMD's plans.
