Will be putting together a new box for webcam usage... hoping to leverage any experiences you guys have had with this... :)

Any advice on which Distro? Am thinking Suse or Mandrake?

Any particularly good choices on webcam? Am thinking Logitech...

Thanks!

The distro shouldn't matter much. Use whatever you are most comfortable with. Check around to make sure the camera you want is supported though, last time I looked the support was pretty bad (2000 maybe?).

Thanks, n0cmonkey! :)

You're right that support for webcams is sketchy... that's why I was hoping for some feedback from others that may have tried it out already... In any case, seems that Mandrake has good driver support in general... so think I'll give that a try with a Logitech webcam and see how that goes.

hi,

Getting your webcam to work with linux is just a matter of time. First do a google search and find out if your webcam is supported in Linux. Your kernel version is also important for example your webcam may work with kernel 2.4.x, but the driver may have not been ported to 2.6.x yet. Getting your camera to work will probably require you to compile your kernel.

Good luck,
