Hi there!

I am planning to build a home server with RAID 5. Some of the things I would like to be able to use it for is:

FTP
Mediaserver
Streaming mediafiles (heard of a program called Jinzora)
Backup
Mailserver
Other uses (perhaps ventrilo or host Counter-Strike server or similar)

The parts so far:

CHASSI: LIAN LI HTPC PC-V351B M-ATX BLACK
MOBO: ZOTAC GF8200-C-E AM2+ MINI-ITX
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 945 3,0Ghz, AM3
PSU: ACE OUTBURST MODULAR 480W ATX
RAM: Corsair XMS2 Xtreme TwinX DDR2 PC6400/800MHz CL5 2x2GB

Other:
(HDD-cage) LIAN LI EX-23N EXTENSION HDD CAGE 80MM-FAN
(SATA-controller) LYCOM SATA PE-103 2-CH PCI-E

The parts will be bought in Sweden.

In case you don’t want to read the whole text, these are my questions in short:

Will this build pull it off? (FTP, mediaserver, stream media, backup, mailserver, ventrilo etc.)
What harddrives should I choose? (1TBx4)
Is the psu sufficient for this build +4 hdd (RAID5) and 1 systemdisk?

Any other advice you would like to give!

When it comes to deciding hardware my budget has certainly been the main problem. Part of me don’t want to spend that much money but on the other hand, if I am going to build a server it might as well be done properly so that it has multiple uses. So, what do you think? Would I be able to use my server as mentioned above? Can I afford to cut back on some of the hardware and still keep the same uses? What would then be a better (more affordable) alternative?

As for the RAID 5 I have not yet decided what harddrives to use. I’m planning to go for four 1TB drives of maybe Seagate Barracuda LP 1TB or Western Digital Caviar Green 1TB. I heard someone say that the Caviar Green wasn’t good for a raid as the read/write heads pause or park themselves on the disks wich may be interpreted by the raidcontroller as an error. Is this true and if so what would be more appropriate harddrives for a server that is constantly switched on?

EDIT -
Just read the anandtech review of the Zotac H55-ITX which seems like a very nice board, perhaps a better alternative than the GF8200?
EDIT Again - Seems the H55 board got no built in support for RAID? :(
