advice on headphone amplifiers

Hey everyone,

I was just introduced to headphone amplifiers and now really want to buy one. Can someone educate me on what to look for, what price ranges they come in, and which brands are the best? I sort of need a Headphone Amplifier 101. I've looked up some information on them, but I feel as if i don't know what i'm buying and what to look for. Your help is appreciated!

You can get a quick survey of headphones at http://www.headphone.com/index.php (they sell their own brand of headphone amps, so what they sell is not representative of everything available on market).

Depending upon where you live, they often have headphone meets where you can listen to an assortment of headphones, amplifiers, dacs, cables, etc.:
