I'm planning on going to Disney World with my family (wife, 5 YO and 4 YO).

Would anyone have any suggestions on cheap accomodations? I hear there are websites where you can reserve timeshares or rent condos for a week. Could anyone steer me in the right direction?

I've been to Disney world several times through the years. if you dont stay in the park there is no point in going. they have 3 cheaper hotels there on the property that are less than $100 a night. besides if you stay on the property you can enter the park an hour before anybody else who isn't staying there. just go to disney.com and you can get prices there.

I went there a few years back and stayed at some hotel that was right next to the park. I didn't recall having too much trouble going in. Aren't rooms in the Disney hotels for 4 quite expensive?

The All Star hotels. My wife and I have stayed there twice and would do so again if we were going on a budget. I also agree that it is definately worth staying inside the park. My wife grew up in Florida and went to Disney fairly regularly and is converted to staying in the park.

they have condos on site that you can get. check those out if you can. we stayed in one of those and it was amazing. had a very nice kitchen, two story, three bedroom, large open living room. it was great. what is really nice is that its on site. you wake up, get dressed, get on the bus, and enjoy your day. you dont have to drive at all.

but check out the condos available.

I disagree. It is a great place to bring your kids. If you happen to be, or know someone in the military, there is a lovely cheap resort right on Disney proterty.

"The contemporary" is the cheapest of the three that were there when I was last there (1997). I also agree that it's not worth the trip if you don't stay on the property and get an all-inclusive package. I also don't think it's worth going if your youngest won't remember it. Wait 'til they're older IMHO.

We stayed at these hotels when we went t Disney World:

Animal Kingdom Lodge
Contemporary Resort
Caribbean Beach Resort
Disney All Star Movies

Animal Kingdom Lodge was the best. Highly recommend you stay there, but it was costly at around $360 a night. Contemporary Resort was very nice too, but again it was costly at 350 a night. Much much nicer than the cheap Caribbean Beach and Disney All Star. Also Animal Kingdom Lodge Buffet is one of the best places to eat in the park. Great food, and not to expensve too at $29 a person for adult and $15 for children.

Disney will be great for the kids, but you will LOVE Universal Studios. Our family went to Universal last year instead of Disney and it basically pwned Disney.

do you or your 4 and 5 y/o mind waiting in line 30 min or more just to get on or into one ride?

seems to me like Disney is a place everyone should go to at least once, but there are a lot of adult and child meltdowns due to all the line waiting that goes on.

Wheelchair trick FTW. Tell them one of your children can't walk. They will let you cut.

www.mousesavers.com
for saving $$ at Disney World
www.wdwinfo.com
for all sorts of other great info (unofficial site).

The 'condos' the other poster was talking about are probably the DVC (Disney Vacation Club) properties - they're super nice, but $$$$. The All-Stars and Pop Century are the 'value' level resorts. PM me for any additional info. Depending on when you go, it might not be too crowded.

that's like parking in a handicapped parking space when you aren't. it's nothing i'd ever do.

I went to disney a few times as a kid, and I don't remember the first time, when I was 5 at all, so IMO, wait two more years, until they're 6 & 7, or 7 & 8. I have fond memories of the trip we took when I was 7.

All Star Sports / Music FTW!

The All Star Hotels are crappy. Stayed in them and it was so small.

Animal Kingdom Lodge >>>>> All Star Hotels.
