My old ads powerplate died :(

I have mb quart 5.25 components up front (bro gave them to me about $300-350 units)

and Pioneer 6x9 (ts6999) compression horn's in the rear.

It's my understanding the mb quarts are very sensitive to power. Maybe 50 watts RMS tops. 100 watts peak.

The pioneers, are rated at 60 watts rms...

My first choice, for an amp is the punch 400.4 4 channel amp. This would run 50 watts x 4 rms. About $240 shipped.

Secondly, i was considering a used PPI ART series amp at 40watts x 4. Gotta love the cool 80's graphics. ~~ $250

Anyone have any other suggestions? I need 4 channel, With adjustable gain so I can turn down the power to the front component set.

thanks dudes...

MTX 4240 I think it is.. On sale at Crutchfield for $200.

Thar she blows!

I have a MTX RT2200X that runs like a champ. I thought I had just burned up my Clarion 40x4 and was going to replace it with this MTX. Clarion ended up surviving..

Look around for an Infinity, Denon, or if you're really lucky, Carver :)
Yes I'm talking car audio. I peronsally own 2 carver amps....one died due to water leakage into trunk (was a sad day :()

MB Quarts are very excellent speakers. I'd be more worried about your damn Pioneer things blowing.

Alpine makes a great amp for not a whole lot of money.

Less than .5% THD.

My RT2200X says 100x2 at .1% THD into 4ohms and 110db SN. Actual test rating was 122W at .007%THD and 118db SN, according to it's birth certificate.

I doubt you could hear 10% THD on a good day, with $10,000 speakers, even if you were 6 years old.

<< yuck the mtx has 0.5% THD . that sucks. Dirty sound. >>

you couldn't hear it---in the car you'd be lucky if you could hear 10% THD like glen said
MTX amps are damn good, IMO. I've had 3 of them in different cars.

good deals here

This is my take on it.

Typically, the more you spend, the higher quality components the manufacturer used.

Question--Two amps put out the same power, one costs ~25% more. Which one hould you choose?
Answer--The more expensive one.
Why? Even though they are rated to put out the same amount of power, odds are the cheaper one is running closer to it's limits.
This will equal ~two things.
1.more noise to your speakers (which shortens speaker life, sometimes drastically)
2.the amp will wear out sooner, especially if you frequently play your music loud
Also, cheaper components (capacitors, transistors, ect) equal lower tolerances and most likely shorter life
