Advice on getting a 8500GT, would it be an upgrade over an ATI X1550 ?

My wife has an ATI X1550 video card in her pc at present, would a Geforce 8500GT be much of an upgrade ? Amazon has them on sale for $16 after rebate, and was wondering if it would be further it. My wife mostly plays WOW & Sims 2

A 8500GT should get away with WoW (That game is more CPU-bound anyways) but i can't comment on The Sims,try to shoot for at least a HD 2600Pro.

Yes it will be faster. How much? not really sure. The 8500GT has more fill rate, more shader power but the same memory bandwitdth. What resolution does she play these games? If it's low like 800x600 thne the 8500gt might be able to help a little. otherwise probably not much of a difference.

Look at it this way, if you have 16 dollars burning a hole in your pocket, get it and if it's not much better, oh well. If it's your last 16 dollars don't waste it, save for something better.

she runs wow at 1280x1024, but can't have all the settings turn up to get it playable

It will be minuscule performance increase maybe not even. Waste of money wait game on the rebate.

Is her x1550 card the 64-bit version or 128-bit? They make both, and it makes a difference.
