I'm going to pick up a DVD player to replace the CD-ROM in my system. From what I understand about players most should do fine. Looking at My systemis there something special that I should be thinking about, I have never messed with DVD so I would really appreciate advice as far as software etc. My VCard has DVD support and DVD software but is it any good?

thanks,

nothing really...go ahead and pick any DVD drive you want...as long as its a pioneer ;)...no, really it just looks pretty that's all. i suppose you'd need a decoder card if your computer is going to be the only way you can watch your dvds. otherwise...software decoding isn't that bad.

Desmoquattro, I'm not sure I follow you..

Are yo saying that I can't watch DVD's without a decoder card? Or would I need a decoder card to send it to a TV?

What about software?

If your going to watch DVD's played on your computer on your television, you need 1) A dedicated card 2) a video card with video out.

As for drives, I like the pioneer slot feeds.. mmmm

You don't need a decoder card to watch DVD's on your computer, you have Zoran SoftDVD already I guess? (came with your card). Just get your DVD drive and go from there. Try what you have first, and you can download a preview of PowerDVD to see how you like the software. Go for a Radeon le with TV-out for excellent DVD playback as well as good DVD software and TV-out for easily under $100 if you're not happy with the playback.

I like my Toshiba 12x 1402 DVD, BTW;)
