advice on dell oc

need advice on how to oc a dell precision 340 (p-iv 1.9) and opinions about how far can i push it without ANY aditional hardware (i.e. fans, and so on).

as a general rule of thumb, pcs from manufacturers such as dell come with no provision for overclocking!

Dude, you can overclock a dell but it will cost you some money.
heres how:
1. Go to your local store and buy a big steardy clock (preferably one that can handle about 30-40 lbs of weight)
2. Place your clock on the floor
3. Place your "DELL" over the clock

i did a lot of research into overclocking a Dell. Theres no way you can do it. I ended up selling my system (for a profit ofcourse) and built my own. right now i have my 1.6a @ 2.4 and have plans on going higher soon.

hold on....you said you got a P4 1.9 Ghz ? Now thats a willy (willamette) P4 with lesser cache (only 256k) instead of 512k on the newer northwoods. Get rid of that willy now. As far as i know.....Willy hardly overclock. They will hardly cross 2.0 Ghz mark and you are already there.

I know a Dell Dimension 8200 with the latest BIOS flash can be upgraded to support 533Mhz FSB cpus (socket 478). The question is whether or not you can select 133 FSB as an option when you have a 100FSB cpu. In the past I was able to do so with a Celeron 300a (66 FSb => 100FSB). A friend down the hall has a Dimension 8200 so i'll check it out. If all turns out right, then I should be able to pop a 1.6a and set the FSB at 533 to make it run at 2133 (no voltage tweaks though).

Dont tell me that a 1.9 willy can overclock to 2527 Mhz (19 * 133). Willy wont go anywhere over 2.2 (thats the max......imho)
so even if he is able to flash the BIOS for 133 Mhz......his processor wont be able to handle it (unless he upgrades the processor to a northwood)
