Hello, I'm new to the forum, and I was going to buy a pre-built computer, but then I decided that I could build one myself with better components. I'm not a gamer. I'd just like a mid-range computer with quality components that won't get bogged down when I run a memory intensive flight simulator or other program and that I won't have to upgrade for a few years. I've done some research, and this is the list of components I've come up with besides the case. I'd like to get input on a good case.
1. CPU-Q9650
2. MOBO-GAEP45-UD3P
3. Power Supply-PCU power & cooling 575CF 750W
4. RAM-G. Skill 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2
5. HD-1TB Caviar black
6. Graphics card XFX-HD-487A
7. Sound card-Sound Blaster X-fi Extreme Audio
8. Speakers-Altec Lansing VS2521
9. CD & DVD-LG CH08LS10
10. Fan & heat sync-Xigmatek S-1283V
11. Media Reader-Nmedia ZE-C128 black
12. Keyboard & mouse-Logitech EX110

Any suggestions about reliability, compatibility issues, etc please let me know.

Never buy a CPU at the top of the chain like that, it's just not worth it. $325 for a Q9650? You should be going with the Core i7 920.

And 750W power supply is just too much. 500W is more than enough for a non-gaming computer with a single video card.

He's right. If you "stepped down" to an i7 920, it would free up enough funds for an X58 board. You'd have a much faster system overall going with bloomfield.

The xtremeaudio isn't even a real X-Fi. It's just a rebranded Audigy SE, and almost definitely a waste of money. If you want an X-Fi, don't go for anything less than the xtremegamer. Personally, I'd just try the onboard audio if I were in your place and only upgrade if you're not happy with that (especially considering the low end speakers you've chosen).

you're acting like the x-fi is better than the audigy, when in fact it's worse. at least the audigy has drivers that weren't programmed by blind deaf mute quadriplegics.
